MÅNESKIN: RISING STARS OF THE FUTURE

Although the Italian rock band Måneskin was found in 2016 and had success in X Factor in 2017, they were globally known mostly after they won Eurovision 2021 with their hit song “Zitti e buoni”. They initially played as buskers in the streets of Rome, but then they attended X Factor and rose to prominence when they finished second in the eleventh season.

The band has four members: Damiano David on vocals, Victoria De Angelis on bass, Ethan Torchio on drums and Thomas Raggi on guitar. They write the band’s songs altogether. Let’s get to know them better.

Damiano David

He was born in 1999. He loves playing basketball and has two cats named Legolas and Bidet. Damiano is fluent in English and can speak some Spanish and French. He is an advocate for racial and LGBT rights.

He has a lot of tattoos. But one the most remarkable ones is the “Il Ballo Della Vita” tattoo on his chest. Il Ballo Della Vita is their second studio album.

Damiano started singing when he was six years old. He met Victoria De Angelis and Thomas Raggi, who he would eventually go on to form Måneskin with, during his high school days. But he didn’t complete high school  and devoted himself to his career.

After their victory at the Eurovision 2021 he was falsely accused of drug use during the final. Damiano didn’t use drugs and along with his bandmates, has been an anti-drug advocate. Damiano himself stated in his Vogue Italia interview, “We are not falling into the stereotype of the alcoholic and drugged rock star.”

Victoria De Angelis

She was born in 2000. Being half Danish, she chose the band’s name as  Måneskin (meaning moonlight in Danish) because the other members wanted her to pick a cool name for their band. Sadly, her mother died from cancer when she was 15. She has a younger sister named Veronica who is three years younger. From a young age, according to her, rock music embodied a desire for freedom. Having had a passion and fondness for music since childhood, De Angelis started playing guitar at the age of 8 and began playing bass in the seventh grade. She and Thomas Raggi first met in the middle school.

Ethan Torchio

He was born in 2000. Being a foodie, his favorite food is burgers and fries. When Victoria, Damiano and Thomas were inquiring a drummer on Facebook, they met Ethan.

Thomas Raggi

He was born in 2001. He was the one who formed the band with Victoria De Angelis. After they formed Måneskin, Damiano David and Ethan Torchio joined them.

 

WHICH SONGS OF THE BAND SHOULD I START TO LISTEN?

As their first Italian hit is “Torna a casa” from their album Il Ballo Della Vita and it is kind of a fan favorite, you can listen to it. You can also listen to their hit “I Wanna Be Your Slave”, their cover “Beggin’” and the song that they won Eurovision with “Zitti e buoni”.
