Five Lebanese dishes that you should definitely try out!

Lebanese cuisine is rich in many tastes. Every dish is special with its ingredients and oriental spices: from simple and colorful salads, to appetizers, main courses to deserts.

In this article, I will introduce you to five Lebanese dishes that you should definitely try out:

Tabbouleh

Tabbouleh is a special salad found in every Lebanese house, on every table. It is not only known in Lebanon as it is made also in other Arab countries.

Tabbouleh is known for its sour taste and colorful ingredients. It is made of parsley, onions, tomatoes, and mint, burghul mixed with olive oil, lime juice, salt and pepper.

Hummus

Hummus is also present on every Lebanese table. It is an appetizer eaten with bread. It is made of boiled and mashed chick peas, tahini, lime juice, garlic, salt and ice cubes.

Its texture is very smooth and it can be eaten with meat or chicken.

Potatoes with coriander and garlic

This dish is also an appetizer. It can be also considered as a main course as a little portion of it can make you feel “full” from the bottom of your heart.

The combination of coriander and garlic gives the potatoes cubes an extraordinary taste.

This dish consists of potatoes cubes half-fried, mixed with fried coriander and garlic, with salt and pepper.

Chicken and rice

Chicken and rice is one of the most known Lebanese main courses. It is literally a royal dish served often during special occasions and annual feasts.

It is full of oriental spices such as: cinnamon, garlic powder, nutmeg, salt and pepper.

This dish consists of: boiled full chicken, boiled rice with spices and fried nuts (pine nuts, raisins, almonds, pistachios, walnuts).

It is often served with a sauce made of the boiled chicken broth, flour and the same spices used while cooking the dish.

Ossmaliyeh

Ossmaliyeh is a famous Lebanese desert usually served with sweet syrup. It is composed of two layers of vermicelli with a layer of cream between them.

This dish consists of: ossmaliyeh dough (vermicelli) mixed with a cup of butter, a cup of powdered sugar. You should put the first layer in a tray sprayed with butter.

 For the second that is the cream, you need: Four cups of milk, one cup of semolina, half cup of cornstarch, mixed in a pot on the cooking gas  until it becomes more consistent than you add to it one table spoon of blossom water.

You pour the mix on the first layer than add the second layer of ossmaliyeh dough.

Put the tray in the oven for about 30 minutes until the first layer becomes a little bit gold. When serving it, add to it sweet Arabic syrup that is made of two cups of sugar, one cup of water, and one teaspoon of lime juice. It should boiled for at least ten minutes and after it becomes thick you should add to it one tablespoon o
