Fancy a good bottle of wine? Choose Bolgheri

Bolgheri is a small town located in the province of Livorno, in the region of Tuscany, Italy. It is known for its wine production, particularly the Bolgheri DOC, a red wine made from Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Merlot grapes. The town is also home to several wineries and vineyards, as well as the Castello di Bolgheri, a castle dating back to the 11th century. In addition to its wine production, Bolgheri is a popular tourist destination for its beautiful countryside, historic architecture, and cultural events.

Some of the most well-known wineries in Bolgheri include Tenuta San Guido, which produces the famous Sassicaia wine, and Ornellaia, which produces the popular Masseto wine. These wineries are known for their high-quality wines and have gained international recognition for their excellence.

In addition to its wine production, Bolgheri is a charming town with narrow streets and beautiful houses. Located among the rolling hills of the Maremma Livornese, in Tuscany, there is this small village (in Italian, Borgo) named Bolgheri, with a vast well-known wealth of territory and primary resources.

To get there, you will drive through the famous Viale dei Cipressi and you’ll arrive in front of the magnificent Castle, once property of Della Gherardesca Family; unfortunately, now it is private, so it won’t be possible to visit. From this point, your tour will start.

On the right, a small church, Dei Santi Giacomo e Cristoforo Church: it is the most ancient witnesses of the place. Near the church, one of the most famous wineries of Bolgheri: the Enoteca Tognoni, where you can purchase the most famous bottles of wine of the territory.

On the opposite side of the street, its own restaurant, where you could taste delicious servings such as Tuscanian starter, beef tartar, pappardelle al cinghiale, tagliolini with truffles, ravioli with duck filling, beef tagliata, and the Florentine Steak, are just some of the dishes that you would love to taste, value for money.

 

Thanks to the sommelier, once you choose what to eat, you will be guided to choose the right bottle: it will be difficult, due to the variety of wine list (or, should I say, wish list?)

Bolgheri Sassicaia 2014 DOC, originally produced and bottled by Tenuta San Guido- Castagneto Carducci, you won’t regret it!

 

 

 

Blend composed by 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Cabernet Franc, spurred cordon, manual is the harvest, which starts during the second decade of September for the Cabernet Franc and then, in the last week of the same month, for the Cabernet Sauvignon. Once arrived in the cellar, a soft pressing of the grapes and after that, the fermentation in steel tanks starts, under a controlled temperature of 30°C, without the addition of external yeasts. With a maceration of the grapes lasting 11-15 days (due to the weather of the year 2014, which was very complicated in Italy for the agriculture). At the end of November, it has been made the last malolactic fermentation. At the beginning of December, the wine has been transferred in the French oak barrels, for aging the next 24 months.

 

With a full belly, after lunch, you really need a walk and so you can keep exploring the beauties of Bolgheri: uphill, you will find small craft shops selling handmade, original pieces, such as bags, decorated tools for the house and for the kitchen, jewelries, pictures and paintings.

It seems to visit another reality, an atmosphere of the past: moreover, if you like perfumes and aromas, the Acqua di Bolgheri is one of the main productions, with fragrances and smells choose from the Mediterranean vegetation.

 

If you want to visit Tuscany and its essence, choose Bolgheri and you will be delighted. And, maybe, a little bit cheerful, but why not?
