In addition to the our Christmas To-Do List we have prepared for you, here we have listed some of the most exciting marketplaces around Europe for those who like a little more adventure. Marketplaces are a great way to spend time as they offer a wide variety of activities to indulge in, allowing you to lose track of time with your loved ones.

Whether you decide to visit with your family and kids, your partner, your friends or even by yourself, you are guaranteed to create unforgettable memories that will stick with you for the rest of your lives. So if you have the chance to take a day trip to one of these fairs, make sure to take advantage of the opportunity!

Advent Basilica Christmas market – Budapest, Hungary

The Advent Basilica is a unique and fascinating Christmas market in Hungary’s capital, Budapest. Taking place at the square in front of the Saint Stephens’s Basilica, this fair has been voted as the ‘Most beautiful Christmas market in Europe’  and is expected to run between November 18th, 2022, and January 1st, 2023. Composing of more than 100 craft exhibition stalls, creative gastronomic experiences, wine tasting stands and 3D light shows, you are guaranteed to spend a great time in this fair during Christmas.

Together with the light shows and the musical performances taking place, the skating ice rink is also a great opportunity for families to spend an unforgettable day in Budapest. Charity organizations that have been incorporated throughout the program in this fair have also ensured that important Christian values such as helping the less fortunate are met.

Montbeliard Christmas market – Montbeliard, France

Located in France-Comte, in the town of Montbeliard, this German-style Christmas market houses more than 400,000 visitors every year. The best craftsmen of the area are selected by the municipality to display their works in more than 150 stalls. This fair takes place in front of the Lytheran Temple built in 1601 and has been a great tradition for 25 years. Ranging from traditional and authentic foods, to creative gifts and clothing items, this market presents a great variety of the best hand-made custom designed items that will serve as a great souvenir for your Christmas holiday.

One other factor that helps this market stand out from the other is the captivating light shows and illuminations taking place. From Place Denfert-Rochereau up to the Railway station are more than 100,000 light bulbs designed to create interesting Christmas motives. Be sure to visit this marketplace between the dates November 26th and December 24th of this year!

Winter Wonders Christmas market – Brussels, Belgium

The Winter Wonders, being one of the largest and most intriguing Christmas market of all Europe, hosts around 2.5 million visitors every year, creating an extraordinary memory in the minds of many. Sound and light animation shows at the Grand-Place, a mesmerizing and impressively large Christmas tree, a skiting rink and exhibitions chalets and tasting centers all contribute to making this fair a very special one.

External site attractions such as a Ferris wheel, and merry-go round serve as a great option for families to entertain their younger kids. Running from 25th November 2022 to the 1st of January, 2023, This fair is not one to missed if you’re close by in the country.

Basel Christmas market – Basel, Switzerland

The Basel Christmas market, located right at the city’s historic center reflects the deep rooted tradition of Switzerland. Bordered y 100 tall pine trees decorated with shimmering lights and guiding the visitor, this market is distributed along the Barfusserplatz and Munsterplats squares of the city. An impressive Christmas tree , designed by the city’s celebrity decorated Johann Wanner is placed at the center of the Market, and has been voted as one of the most beautiful Christmas trees in Europe.

Apart form the classic exhibition stalls and animations, the highlight of this market is definitely the gastronomy chalets. From waffles to traditional Swiss cheese fondues, to gingerbread cookies, a trip to this fair is ensured to give your mouth an explosion of delight. In our opinion, the German, feuerzangenowle; sugarloaf soaked in Rum and then set on fire and melted into spiced wine, is the definite star of the show. This fair can be visited on Thursday November 24, 2022, and close on Friday December 23, 2022.

East Princes Street Gardens Christmas market – Edinburgh, Scotland

Running between the 25th of November 2022 and the 3rd of January 2023, this Christmas Market in East Princes Street Gardens takes place at the heart of the city, surrounded by Edinburgh’s large buildings located around the well-known Waverly train station.

This market, similar to other markets, has a ne excessive amount of stalls and food markets to sample traditional goods from, as well as Harry potter themes gifts and adventurous Christmas rides people of all ages can enjoy. Although the entrance to the fair is free, a little spending is required to make the most of this experience.
